Dumas High School varsity wrestlers competed against Boys Ranch for Senior Night on Jan. 19. There were many in attendance and what seemed like an endless supply of support for the boys.

Multiple teammates could be seen lined up beside the mat, cheering on their team players.

“The atmosphere made me feel excited to be there and it was a new experience for me because I had never been to a wrestling match before,” sophomore Whitney Horton said.

Since Boys Ranch didn’t have a JV boys team, only varsity boys could compete. Although the JV boys couldn’t compete, they were right there to cheer on the varsity boys and be their biggest supporters there.

“There were a lot of people there that were positive, involved with the matches, and had good sportsmanship towards the other team,” Whitney said.

There was a lot of support and positive energy in the air during these matches, including when wrestling coach Antonio Murga was given a generous donation of $500.00 to help support him through his recent difficult battle with cancer. There were many successes that night that led the boys to win the match 73-3.
